Training really starts now. The past month was all about getting used to cycling and my own body again. The aches and pains and stiff muscles I felt after the first bike rides took their toll. In the self-confidence, that is. The fear of having a relapse and being sidelined again for a long time with a neck hernia was great. But after a good talk with the neurologist and more kilometers on the bike (the counter now stands at a paltry 800 kilometers...) I enjoy putting real pressure on the pedals again. So now the real training can begin.
I make use of a training app. This makes training more effective and more fun. Simply doing mileage is out of date. In the app, I entered my current level (FTP) and my final goal (to climb the Alpe d'Huez six times on June 1). Then I enter weekly on which days I can train for how many hours. The app then creates an alternate training schedule. Since training in the evening is not yet an option, I do as much as possible during the day between work appointments. Did you know that even in one hour you can do a good workout that completely knocks you out?
Of course cycling together is fun and a good way to measure yourself against each other. With the Mufasa team, we have therefore chosen a number of tours to give it some gas. The first is the Joop Zoetemelkclassic on March 18 and on April 1 we ride the Veluwe Heuvelentocht. These are relatively small tours where we are not bothered by slower participants. And on April 30, we are going on our road bikes to Papendal for the presentation of our Alpe d'HuZes shirts. On which of course Athletes Sports World got a nice spot. I am curious about the result and will keep you posted.
