The 30-year-old Floortje, like several other ASW team members, comes from the sport of rowing. This sport manages to produce several talented triathletes and so did Floortje. The occasion was a little less fun, however, as a back injury caused her to look for other ways to stay fit. "As a result, I started cycling. In the winter months, however, I found cycling less fun to do and then I started running. When I ran into an injury there too, a stress fracture in the fibula, I started swimming. And so suddenly I was practicing three different sports that I enjoyed, with the result that many people asked me if I did triathlons. But I had never done that before."
So when the questions about triathlon kept coming and Floortje didn't want to keep selling no, she started trying the sport anyway. That led to two participations in 2021, a sprint in Almere and her first Olympic Distance, at the Bosbaan triathlon.
"2022 was a year with a lot of setbacks and injuries, but this year I'm back at it," says a motivated Floortje. She ran the 10km in Schoorl in the spring, the half marathon in The Hague, participated in the sprint of TriAmsterdam, but is especially keen to stay in one piece and be able to do some good races again: "Whatever sport it is, I especially like racing a lot."
In this, the philosophy of AthleteSportsWorld fits seamlessly with her racing experience: "Whether you are a pro or an enthusiast with a full-time job, you are always received with the same respect and enthusiasm. The team is very approachable and will do everything they can to make sure you walk out of the store satisfied."
Floortje's program for 2023:
